Day 19

Today we had to get up early (again), because we were going to Colon (the second biggest city in Panama, located on the Caribbean coast) with the train (which leaves at 7.15 am). The train drove right through the jungle, so we had a very nice view on both the canal and the rainforest.
We would get picked up by Anna and Joost at 9 am, so we'd have to wait for half an hour, but apparently, Colon is quite an unsafe city. A police officer walked up to us to ask us why we were still at the train station, and after we explained everything to him, he asked if he could call Anna. Unfortunately, her phone had an empty battery, so the police officer told us to wait in the police car untill they arrived (which was nice, because the car had air conditioning).
At around 9, Anna and Joost arrived, and we drove to the Gatun locks. We were really lucky, because a Disney cruise ship (which is the biggest cruise ship that fits through the locks, and has to pay $400,000 to enter the canal) arrived at the locks just as we got there. I didn't really think much of it myself, but apparently this ship only passes by once every 3 years, so even the canal staff took out their phones to take pictures.
When the ship had passed to locks, we drove to the visitors centre nearby. They have been building a new set of locks on each side of the lake, so Joost told us everything about it, and showed us what was what.
It's currently 2 pm, but since we'll go to the airport at 5.30 (the traffic jams in the city can make the half an hour ride take 2 hours, and we leave at 9 pm), I'm typing this blog right now. We've packed our suitcases, and are ready to go back home.
This will be my final blog by the way, since the only thing we'll do tomorrow is fly back home.
